Oil and Water Don't Mix!!!

2 Corinthians 6:14
Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?

Good morning, everyone and happy #WitnessWednesday!! Today, our text brings us a simple but profound truth; oil and water doesn't mix. We need to recognize that if we are to be godly, we cannot mix with people who do not follow Jesus. You may not like this statement but allow me to explain...

 When a believer in Jesus Christ makes deep friendships with unbelievers there is a compromise that must happen. This is the illustration Paul is using to explain this occurrence. When oxen are yoked together with one being stronger than the other (or one taller than other,) the oxen would go in circles due to the deficiency of the weaker one. This is also true with believers. When we have extensive relationships with unbelievers, we tend to go in circles or worse, we gravitate away from our godly character into more worldliness. Believers need to be in like-minded relationships to be effective for Jesus. When we are equally yoked or bound together with like-minded people, we can shine more light in dark places. Yet, we are warned to avoid situations in which we are unequally yoked because they are detrimental to growing Christians. We'd likely pick up bad habits that ruin our witness OR we'll spend so much time arguing over our differences that a meaningful relationship will be unattainable and communication would be a waste of time and energy. Please take Paul's warning to heart before you engage unbelievers in relationships, romantic or otherwise. If you don't, you're only asking for trouble... AND YOU JUST MIGHT GET YOUR WISH.
